About Judy

Judy trained at the BBC and worked there for 16 years 14 of them as a Make-Up Designer Supervisor. In 1978 she left to work as a freelance makeup designer. In 1992 she opened her first make-up training studio in Uckfield and in 2003 her second studio at the Brighton Film Studios.

Over the years she has worked with a wide range of artists and clients on many different projects providing make-up, hair and prosthetic services. Listed below is just a small sample of the different programmes and productions she has been involved with.

TV: Dr Who; I Claudius; The Expert; Colditz; Little Lord Fauntleroy; Secret Army; The Brothers; Blue Peter (historical stories); many comedies, musicals and numerous documentaries

Theatre: As You Like It; The Odd Couple; Showboat; Spring Awakening; Bugsy Malone; God's Country; Cabaret; Seagull; etc

Commercials: HD TV, Cinema, DVD and CD: Fashion Clothes, Beauty and Hair, Shampoo Products, Spectacles / Sun Glasses / Clear and Coloured Contact Lenses, Teeth Whitening, Credit Cards, Sewing Machines, Childrens' Toys and Books / Games and Sports Products and Corporate films.

Photographic: Numerous Fashion and Catalogue shoots as well as DVD, CD and book covers which included the personal makeup for celebrities, commercial brochures and fashion shoots

Videos: Many rock videos: eg. Queen; Billy Joel; Sir Cliff Richard

As a freelancer Judy is employed as Chief Make-Up Artist for a Dutch film company that specialises in HD and wide-screen music videos, often involving hair and makeup for 16th, 17th and 18th" Centuries. Some of these were filmed on location in Spain, Italy, Belgium and New Orleans, as well as England.

Recently she has been working on several assignments involving: the Duchess of York; Shirley Bassey; Emma Kirkby; Juliet Stevenson; Gail Gilmore; Sir John Tavener.

She has also worked in front of the cameras: appearing on Sky TV; being interviewed by Belgian and Dutch television; and working on a number of educational programmes.

Judy herself conducts many of the courses at Centre Stage and personally supervises all aspects of the training to a Professional Diploma standard for those looking to start a career in this media. After completion of their course, students are fully qualified to seek professional work in this industry. Judy also teaches NVQ at a number of Colleges of Further Education and holds workshops for 'A' Level drama students.
